Jorge Masvidal has taken a thinly veiled jibe at Colby Covington after news emerged that US President Donald Trump will attend UFC 244 at Madison Square Garden.

“Gamebred” fights Nate Diaz for the BMF title in the main event, and Trump is expected to go to New York to watch Saturday’s stacked card before staying overnight in Trump Tower.

“Of course [I’m honoured], no matter what your political views on him, not every fighter can say, ‘Hey, the president is showing up to my fight’,” Masvidal told TMZ Sports.

“So that’s humbling in itself, especially when there are other fighters out there trying so hard, saying, ‘Hey, Mr President, look at me’ and the president won’t even go to their fights, look at them or acknowledge them.”

Masvidal’s comments were a clear jab at teammate and former friend Colby Covington, who has riled some prominent members of American Top Team with his outspoken words.

Former interim welterweight champion Covington is a prominent Trump supporter, and visited the US president in the Oval Office last year.
