UFC: Stipe Miocic wants Tyson Fury super-fight more than Daniel Cormier trilogy
- Heavyweight champion eager to take on Fury in the Octagon and the boxing ring upon return from injury
- Croatian-American has no problems making Cormier wait after ‘DC’ put him through the same ordeal – ‘now I’m important’
UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic quashed rumours of a Daniel Cormier trilogy and instead called out lineal heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury.
The 37-year-old Miocic (professional MMA record 19-3) – who won the belt back from Daniel Cormier via a fourth-round knockout in August – is recovering from eye surgery but wants to cross the combat realm upon his return next year.
Fury (boxing record 29-0, 1 draw) posted clips of himself training with UFC middleweight Darren Till on his social media last week, having expressed interest in an MMA bout in future. Fury also recently performed in a match for professional wrestling giants WWE.
“I saw Tyson Fury’s coming into the mix here – I’d like a new challenge”, Miocic told ESPN’s Ariel Helwani on Monday. “He’s definitely got good striking but anyone can make a 30-second highlight reel. It’s still good, but I can do that too.
“Maybe [Fury] is not [serious] about MMA, but good for him” added Miocic, also a part-time firefighter. “Definitely if he wants to step into the Octagon – I love it.
“I’ll step into the ring, I’d love to box him. I would love to box him … I think we’d put on a good show”.
