UFC president Dana White has confirmed in a statement to ESPN that Conor McGregor has signed a deal to fight Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone on January 18.

The Irishman (21-4) has not fought since an October 2018 defeat by lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, but is making the jump up to welterweight again.

ESPN’s Brett Okamoto first reported the news on Thursday night. “Conor has signed and Cowboy is ready to go,” White told Okamoto in a statement.

This will be the third time McGregor has fought at 170 pounds. He fought Nate Diaz twice at welterweight in 2016.

The 36-year-old Cerrone (36-13, 1 no contest) is coming off a first-round TKO by lightweight contender Justin Gaethje in September at Fight Night 158 in Vancouver.
