UFC 245: Colby Covington wants ‘Street Judas’ Jorge Masvidal for first title defence

If Colby Covington beats welterweight champion Kamaru Usman at UFC 245, most fans would agree Jorge Masvidal should be next in line.

It appears Covington knows it makes all the sense in the world, too – not just in terms of rankings.

The two men were former training partners and friends at American Top Team, but fell out after Masvidal claimed “Chaos” did not pay their coach.

“As the people’s champion, I’d like to ask the people who they’d like to see me fight next,” Covington said at an athlete panel in Las Vegas on Wednesday evening. “Should it be journeyman Jorge Masvidal? Should it be GSP? Should it be ‘Kabob’ [Khabib Nurmagomedov]?

“Should it be that Irish leprechaun [Conor McGregor] that couldn’t even knock a drunk dude, old dude off a stool in the bar?”

Covington paused, before adding: “Who should it be? Who? Masvidal? Looks like it’s going to be ‘Street Judas’; ‘Journeyman Jorge’.”

It remains to be seen whether “BMF” champion Masvidal – who has been nicknamed “Street Jesus” for his street-fighting past and flowing locks of hair – will even go for welterweight title, with plenty of big money fights out there for him in 2020.

The 35-year-old has said he is the “ticket” at 170 pounds now and wants to fight Conor McGregor in April, and then box Floyd Mayweather in November.
