UFC: Khabib on Tony Ferguson mind games – ‘I don’t understand what’s inside his head’

  • UFC lightweight champion says ‘I don’t like Tony personally’ ahead of huge title fight in April
  • ‘I’m going to focus on the fight. When the cage closes I’m going to do my job’

Khabib Nurmagomedov has hit back at Tony Ferguson, saying he doesn’t like him personally as “El Cucuy” tries to ramp up the mind games.

Ferguson claimed last week that the UFC lightweight champion will “rethink his career” after fighting him in Brooklyn on April 14.

The match-up has fallen apart on four occasions since 2015 because of injuries and weight-cut issues, but both men have signed their fight agreements.

“This is a very important fight for UFC, for fans, for me, for Tony,” Khabib told RT Sport. “That's why we signed this agreement. I hope finally we're going to fight in April.”

“I don't have nothing personal with him, you know?” he said.

“Tony is a great fighter. Honestly, I don't like him personally. I don't understand his mind, what is inside his head but I don't need this.

“I don't need this. I'm going to focus on the fight. When the cage closes I'm going to do my job like always.”

Ferguson said in an appearance on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show that he’s “in the dude’s head” already.

“He’s going to train so hard, be so nervous, and make a mistake. I’m going to capitalise on that, catch him during scrambles. Scrambled eggs, baby,” Ferguson said.
