UFC: Jorge Masvidal doubts Colby Covington will fight again – ‘I don’t think he comes back’

  • Masvidal thinks manner of Covington’s loss to Usman ‘says a lot’
  • ‘Chaos’ had his jaw broken by welterweight champion at UFC 245

Jorge Masvidal thinks Colby Covington might be done with fighting after breaking his jaw in his devastating loss to Kamaru Usman.

Welterweight champion Usman shut Covington’s title bid down with a fifth-round TKO at UFC 245.

Covington showed plenty of heart to keep fighting after suffering the jaw injury in the third round, but it came back to haunt him late on as “The Nigerian Nightmare” dropped him twice late on before finishing him.

Some fans said it was comeuppance for the former interim champion’s constant trash talking – and even “poetic justice” that he had to have his mouth wired shut.

“He doesn’t wanna beat guys,” Masvidal told FanSided’s Mark Carman. “He wants to talk s*** about guys. but he doesn’t want to have to prove he’s better than whoever he’s talking s*** about.

“I think this loss right here says a lot. I don’t think he comes back, I’ll say it right there, I don’t think he comes back to fighting.”

UFC: Masvidal says he’ll ‘take Usman to school’

Masvidal and Covington were former friends, roommates and training partners at American Top Team before a feud erupted between them last year.

Asked how a fight between himself and Covington would go, Masvidal was blunt.

“Twenty four minutes of beating his ass and then put him out, that’d be the way to do it,” he said.
