UFC: Korean Zombie obliterates Frankie Edgar with first-round TKO in Busan; says ‘I want Volkanovski’

  • Jung Chan-sung dominates ‘The Answer’ as referee steps in at 3:18 of the first round
  • ‘Zombie’ drops Edgar multiple times to thrill home crowd at Sajik Arena

“The Korean Zombie” Jung Chan-sung obliterated Frankie Edgar with a first-round TKO in front of his home crowd at UFC Fight Night Busan.

Jung dropped former lightweight champion Edgar multiple times, and took his back for a long stretch in between, before referee Marc Goddard stepped in at 3:18 of the first round.

“Zombie” is now 16-5 and did not mince his words during his post-fight interview in the Octagon.

“I want [Alex] Volkanovski,” he said, calling out the UFC featherweight champion.

Edgar took the fight on short notice after Brian Ortega pulled out with a partially torn ACL. “The Answer” was originally set to make his bantamweight debut next month against Corey Sandhagen.

For Jung he dealt with all the pressure and the expectation placed on his shoulders, and then some, bringing the Sajik Arena to its feet.

“I wasn’t so worried about that [pressure],” he said, the stoppage greeted with a thunderous roar.

“When I first came out I was ready to fight all five rounds, all 25 minutes, but my coaches said, ‘That’s not gonna happen’. I have the world’s best team and the world’s best coach.

“I was landing with the uppercut but instead I started dominating him on the ground, so it all worked out.”
