The 42-year-old Mayweather then posted a similar fight poster image of himself and UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. Both posters included Mayweather’s own promotion businesses as well as UFC and Showtime, but do not specify whether these bouts – or Mayweather’s comeback – would be in boxing or mixed martial arts.

White has long talked about the launch of Zuffa Boxing, the UFC’s new boxing venture, later this year. However, he had stated that there were a few “speed bumps” along the way and that it is likely be postponed until October of this year.

“We’ll see what happens. I spent so much in my boxing gym in Crumlin where I began, and look at what happens tonight,” McGregor said in response to whether he would prioritise his MMA comeback over other combat sports ventures.

Khabib, who faces Tony Ferguson in a UFC lightweight title fight in April, has not boxed professionally in his career but has been rumoured for a crossover fight for more than a year.

Social media influencer Dan Bilzerian, who lost a substantial amount of money having bet against McGregor on the weekend, commented on Mayweather’s McGregor poster: “You should let him fight at 170 [pounds] and you at 150. That would be interesting.”
