Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal were involved in a heated verbal confrontation during some UFC-led Super Bowl promotional junkets in Miami on Thursday. Video footage of Nigerian-American champion Usman (professional MMA record 16-1) and Cuban-American Masvidal (35-13) showed the pair being separated by teammates and attending staff as threats of physical exchanges continue to elevate. “Do something, I’m standing right here. Do something. You’re making hand gestures … do something about it,” said Usman, Africa’s first champion. Masvidal, who won the promotion’s only BMF belt, responded with a smile: “Nah, I’m gonna kill you. I’m gonna [expletive] your a** up. You’re talking all that [expletive].” UFC champ Kamaru Usman and BMF champ Jorge Masvidal almost just went at it on Radio Row in Miami. pic.twitter.com/shAgl2O3Et — Andy Nesbitt (@anezbitt) January 29, 2020 Rumours of a potential match-up between both fighters have resurfaced after Masvidal’s open invitation to fight Irish UFC star Conor McGregor went unanswered . Usman, who defended his title against contender Colby Covington in December last year, is recovering from a ligament injury in his hand. Both fighters continued to squabble about Usman’s cast over his thumb, with Masvidal explaining it would not be fair to “do something” while the former is recovering. “I can’t hit you now, you got a cast on, [expletive] … I ain’t gonna take advantage of you like that,” said the 35-year-old Masvidal, who proceeded to blow kisses at his potential opponent. Footage showed the pair being increasingly separated and turning their backs on each other at different points of the altercation. “You’re the one walking away. He pushed you back? You got a cast on, [expletive]. You’re lucky, that’s the only reason nothing has happened to you,” added Masvidal. The confrontation ended after the 32-year-old Usman asked, “Oh you scared of the cast? That’s what I thought,” before both were presumably escorted to calmer grounds. Masvidal described his side of events on ESPN’s Ariel Helwani Show soon after the incident, mocking Usman’s wrestling-based fight style. I'm gonna say it straight to your face – you're not gonna hear it from nobody else,” Masvidal said. “I'm gonna [expletive] you up … none of this he said she said [expletive] … if I could have altercations with him everyday, I wouldn't mind. “He's not stupid, man, he plays tough guy on TV. What is that guy gonna do in a scenario like that? Hug my legs? Come on, man. You know he can't punch through a [expletive] wet paper bag. What is he gonna do? Nothing but look down and have to take a seat. Lil bitch brought his camera to try and flex and act hard. You don't have to take it personally. That's just what's gonna happen. There was no need for him to overreact, he's just sensitive man,” Masvidal said. Usman described his recollection of events via Twitter, writing: “Lil [expletive] brought his camera to try and flex and act hard.
