UFC strawweight champion Zhang Weili said she cried after seeing veteran fighter Diego Sanchez’ lengthy social media post about Americans’ reaction to the deadly coronavirus outbreak.
The 38-year-old American Sanchez, who fights Michel Pereira at UFC Fight Night 167 on February 16, called the American Instagram community “foolish” for its double standards towards the death of NBA legend Kobe Bryant and the coronavirus which has killed 361 and infected 17,205 in mainland China as of Monday late afternoon.
“I really saddens me how foolish and unaware the American Instagram community really is!” Sanchez posted on his Instagram. “You all will show insurmountable levels of love and support for the tragedy of Kobe Bryant and the others lost in the helicopter crash [and] in the same week, posting jokes about the coronavirus?
“Each and every one of you should rethink your life. Chinese families are sick [and] hurting including children! What if it was you and your children … would you still be cracking jokes on [Instagram]? FEEL FOR THESE CHILDREN LEFT WITHOUT PARENTS IN A AIRPORT!!!? Think if it was your or loved ones?! We will pray for fires in the Amazon I’m asking you to pray for Wuhan! And take back your ignorant jokes [and] remove stupid posts[,.] Please have some respect people are sick and dying!”
