One Championship: Aung La N Sang in welterweight king Kiamrian Abbasov’s sights for future showdown
- Kyrgyzstani says he’s finally ‘ready to go to war again’ as he eyes first title defence
- Abbasov vows he will hold the title ‘until my career ends’ – but has designs on Aung La’s middleweight belt too

Kyrgyzstan’s Kiamrian Abbasov only recently captured the One Championship welterweight title, but he already has big plans for his reign.
Abbasov won the belt with a lopsided decision defeat of Swedish knockout artist Zebaztian Kadestam in October of 2019. Unfortunately, he hasn't been able to defend his title yet, initially because of lingering injuries, and now because of the coronavirus pandemic.
He's hoping that changes soon.
“I needed to recover after the fight with Kadestam and work on the mistakes [I made in the fight]," Abbasov told the Post from his training base in Russia. “Now I am ready to go to war again.”
“I would like to return to action soon,” he added. “Now the world is in a very unstable situation. Many people are experiencing difficult problems. Of course, I want to go into the cage and at least somehow distract people from these problems and let them enjoy something.”
It's not clear who Abbasov will defend his title against, although undefeated Japanese-American contender James Nakashima strikes him as the front runner.
