UFC: Mark Hunt trashes ‘Fight Island’ in scathing attack – ‘fighters are getting screwed’
- Outspoken former heavyweight Hunt launches fresh outburst as UFC pushes ahead with events during coronavirus crisis
- ‘All [fans are] doing is paying for them [UFC] to get richer and richer ... I don’t care what they’re doing,’ says Hunt
Mark Hunt has launched another scathing attack on the UFC as he continues his legal battle with the company.
Former heavyweight Hunt (13-14-1, one no contest) this time took aim at the UFC’s plans to push ahead with events in May despite the global coronavirus crisis, in particular its plans to hosts shows on a private “Fight Island”.
“All [fans are] doing is paying for them to get richer and richer, and all these fighters are getting screwed,” Hunt told MMAFighting.com. “So I don’t support them at all. I don’t care what they’re doing. ... Promoting some fights on an island, who gives a f***? They allow these cheaters to get by, and it’s just business.
“[UFC fighters aren’t] even employees. They’re contractors. They share four per cent of the revenue, so why would you support that? The fighters aren’t getting the benefits. I think it’s a joke.”
Hunt, 46, is awaiting an appeal on a federal lawsuit which was dismissed in November after the majority of its claims were struck down. His case centres around his UFC 200 defeat by Brock Lesnar in July 2016, which was overturned to a no contest after the WWE star and former UFC heavyweight champ tested positive for a banned substance before the fight.
