Vitor Belfort is yet to make his debut with ONE Championship but the former UFC champion aims to shake up the world of martial arts when he does.

“I want to do things that people have never seen before,” Belfort said. “I’m working with ONE on ways we can disrupt the martial arts market.”

Belfort (26-14, one on contest) has this week been hyping up a possible heavyweight clash with the Hong Kong-based Alain “The Panther” Ngalani (4-5, one no contest) once the threat of Covid-19 has eased to a degree that ONE are able to stage events again. As it stands everything is on hold until June, at least, and the 43-year-old Belfort is living mostly in isolation at his Florida home.

Belfort signed on with the Singapore-based organisation 12 months ago but had yet to enter the fray by the time the spread of the coronavirus brought the sporting world to a halt in March. The Brazilian “Phenom” brings 24 years of combat with him, having picked up the UFC light heavyweight title, as well as competing in Japan (Pride) and the United Kingdom (Cage Rage).

He told the Post part of ONE’s attraction at this stage of his career was the organisation’s push to extend its reach beyond MMA.
