UFC: Stipe Miocic fires back at Dana White and Daniel Cormier – ‘I want to fight’
- ‘Right now I’m working as a first responder. I can’t control a global pandemic,’ says UFC heavyweight champ
- ‘The second the gym can open, we begin camp. Plain and simple. I have never ducked anyone’
Stipe Miocic clearly needed to get something off his chest.
The UFC heavyweight champion posted a series of tweets on Wednesday night clarifying his stance on defending his title, after former champ Daniel Cormier passionately pleaded for a trilogy fight in August.
UFC president Dana White had said Miocic – who also works as a first responder in Ohio – could “possibly” be stripped of the belt if he does not agree to fight during the global coronavirus pandemic.
“I saw a quote from Stipe recently where Stipe said: ‘there’s bigger things going on in the world right now, fighting will be here forever’. It’s not true,” White said on a recent episode of the UFC: Unfiltered podcast. “Fighting will not be here forever. When you’re a professional athlete, your window of opportunity is very small. So, hopefully we can get Stipe back in there soon with Cormier and get the heavyweight division rolling.”
Well, all the talk clearly hasn’t gone down well with the champ.
