Joe Rogan has admitted his new US$100 million, multi-year licensing deal with Spotify makes him feel “gross”.

The UFC commentator announced last week his hugely-popular Joe Rogan Experience podcast was moving home from YouTube to Spotify, after 11 years on the online-video sharing platform.

He was interviewed by The New York Times, with the newspaper dubbing Rogan “the new mainstream media” in the headline of its article.

Rogan told the daily newspaper he was now “weirdly richer” following the announcement of the deal. “Like it doesn’t register. Seems fake,” he added.

“It feels gross. Especially right now, when people can’t work,” Rogan said, in reference to the global coronavirus pandemic that has seen unemployment soar. More than 38 million Americans have filed for unemployment in the last nine weeks, according to The Washington Post.
