UFC: Jon Jones helps clean up after riots in Albuquerque due to George Floyd protests
- Jones, who lives in the city, posts video of himself helping put up boards over broken windows and also talking spray canisters away from rioters
- The iconic fighter says on Twitter he has relinquished the UFC light heavyweight title after getting into a war of words with president Dana White
Jon “Bones” Jones has had a busy week.
The legendary UFC fighter, who last etched out a decision victory against Dominick Reyes at UFC 247 in February, kicked off a flurry of press last week when he entered negotiations with the UFC for a fight against heavyweight Francis Ngannou.
According to president Dana White, Jones was asking for too much money, which has in turn led the light heavyweight champion to relinquish his belt and ask to be released from his contract.
Then on June 1 Jones posted a video to his Instagram account showing him appearing to take away spray paint canisters from rioters in Albuquerque, New Mexico where he lives. The city was hit by rioters after a peaceful protest related to the death of George Floyd turned ugly around midnight.
In the caption of the video, Jones wrote: “As a young black man trust me I’m frustrated as well but this is not the way, we are starting to make a bad situation worse. If you really got love for your city (505), protect your s***.”
