UFC bantamweight Aljamain Sterling is likely to be next in line for the title shot after securing a huge first-round submission against contender Cory Sandhagen at UFC 250 on Saturday.

No 2-ranked Sterling (19-3) stunned fourth-ranked Sandhagen (12-2) with an early rear-naked choke, with the latter going unconscious having tapped just moments before. “Funk Master” Sterling is now on a five-fight win streak.

“I got no words for this right now. The world is in shambles, especially America. We got a lot going on in this country – this great country, but a lot of things need to be changed, especially the injustices happening to minorities all across America,” said the 30-year-old Jamaican-American.

“This for everybody back home fighting the good fight and protesting. I wish I could be with you, but I had to handle business.”

Sterling had not fought since beating Pedro Munhoz via unanimous decision in June of 2019. Petr Yan (14-1) of Russia is reportedly set to fight former featherweight champion Jose Aldo (28-6) for the vacant bantamweight belt.
