Is there anything left for Amanda Nunes to conquer in MMA? “The Lioness” carved out another slice of history after becoming the first UFC fighter to defend titles in two divisions while holding both. She retained her featherweight title in a dominant five-round unanimous decision against Felicia Spencer in the main event of UFC 250 on Saturday night. Nunes, who also holds the women’s bantamweight belt, put on a masterclass which could and perhaps should have been stopped after the fourth round. Spencer’s face was bloodied and her forehead was sporting a huge hematoma – she had already taken 76 head shots from the greatest knockout artists in women’s MMA – but her corner allowed her to carry on despite being heavily behind on all scorecards. “I'm not surprised, I know she's very tough,” Nunes told Joe Rogan in her post-fight interview at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. “I said it it all my interviews this week, I know she's tough and knew I needed to go five rounds and be as sharp as a cactus.” The scorecards had it 50-44, 50-44, and 50-45 for Nunes over “Feenom” Spencer (8-2), who moves to 20-4 overall and has now won 11 fights in a row in the UFC, with eight consecutive title fight wins. “I don't know [what to do from here], that was my goal to defend both belts,” the 32-year-old added. “I'm the greatest. I'm so happy right now. I don't know what's next. Tonight I closed a cycle and I'm very proud of myself and my gym for making me grow every day, also I have a daughter with me [in the corner].” Championship heart #UFC250 pic.twitter.com/l5mG38cwIP — UFC (@ufc) June 7, 2020 Nunes, who will welcome her daughter in September with pregnant fiancée Nina Ansaroff, landed 120 significant strikes to the 29-year-old Spencer’s 36. The takedown tally was 6-0 in Nunes’ favour, with both attempting seven. “When she connected me with the first punch, I knew she could not knock me out,” Nunes said. “I knew she could handle it but I knew she would not be able to survive any time soon. I'm going back home and will call Dana White about my next step, I can't wait to call my mother and family in Brazil. “This fight I wanted to go five rounds, I knew I could finish her,” Nunes added. “I'm tired of hearing that Amanda can't go to five rounds, now you see I've done it many times. I went five rounds with the toughest girl in the division, I've not fought anybody as tough as her. But I'm not tired, I could go one more.”
