After dominating Felicia Spencer at UFC 250 to make yet more history, Amanda Nunes confirmed she was stepping away from the Octagon for the rest of 2020, with motherhood looming.
But after the 32-year-old hinted she could make her absence permanent, UFC president Dana White couldn’t hide his frustration.
“I will kill her,” White said in an appearance on The Schmozone podcast with Dave Schmulenson and Helen Yee.
“I literally just told [UFC matchmakers] Sean [Shelby] and Mick [Maynard] in the last meeting, ‘Let’s get this division built for her. Let’s build this division for her, and let’s start figuring this out’. And now she’s talking about retiring?”


Brazilian Nunes (20-4), who also holds the bantamweight belt, made it eight title fight wins in a row after defending her featherweight title against the Canadian Spencer (8-2).
She has cleared out both divisions, with first-round finishes of every other previous UFC women’s bantamweight champion in the promotion’s history.

Reflecting on her latest win, Nunes said “I’ve achieved everything I wanted” and “there’s nothing else to be done right now” in an interview with Brazilian television show Esporte Espatacular.
Despite admitting at the UFC 250 post-event press conference this month that there aren’t many options out there for Nunes’ next fight, White feels “The Lioness” is still in her prime and would be wrong to walk away.


“You know what’s awesome about that when you think about it? Her retiring isn’t awesome; that actually drives me nuts,” he told The Schmozone podcast.
“You know how I always say, ‘If you’re talking about retiring, you probably should.’ Unless if you’re where she’s at. In this time when I got guys crying about money, one of our female fighters, who could go on and keep doing this for a long time, is saying, ‘Maybe I retire now.’ She’s got plenty of money, and she can do it.”
