UFC welterweight contender Jorge Masvidal and promoter Ali Abdelaziz have taken aim at each other over who should be on the front cover of EA Sports’ UFC 4 game. Abdelaziz, the CEO of Dominance MMA which manages fighters such as Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje, tweeted a photo of a fan-designed game cover featuring lightweight champion Khabib (28-0) of Russia. The caption read: “This should be the new cover. This man never lost. I know who will be on the new cover. One is good but another has a double digit losses. EA sports people sucks.” While not a direct reference to Cuban-American Masvidal (35-13) or his fight record, the winner of the promotion’s one-off “BMF” belt responded with a dig of his own. You talk a lot. That’s an understatement you are a certified informant,” Masvidal said with a rat emoji. The 35-year-old “Gamebred” Masvidal has been in a feud with the UFC and its president Dana White over fighter pay. White defended the promotion by revealing Masvidal had recently signed a new “seven-fight” deal. Masvidal has not fought since beating Nate Diaz via doctor’s stoppage at UFC 244 last November. Khabib has not fought since beating Dustin Poirier via rear-naked choke in September last year. The game cover in question is to be revealed at UFC 251: Usman vs Burns on July 11. Middleweight fighter Darren Till also took to social media to say “Khabib should be cover f*** these other guys.” Other rumoured UFC 4 cover stars include women’s bantamweight and featherweight champion Amanda Nunes, and middleweight champion Israel Adesanya, among others. White said at the UFC Fight Night post-fight press conference on Saturday that British boxer and heavyweight champion of the world Tyson Fury “might be” in the new game.
