There was no “Stamp Dance” for her walkout entrance given coronavirus regulations, but otherwise it was business as usual for Stamp Fairtex on ONE Championship’s return to action. The atomweight Muay Thai champ cruised to 5-0 in MMA after overwhelming ONE debutant Sunisa Srisen at No Surrender inside an empty Impact Arena in Bangkok on Friday night. It was the Singapore-based Asian martial arts promotion’s first event since February 28’s King of the Jungle in the Lion City, when Stamp relinquished her atomweight kick-boxing belt in a decision loss to Janet Todd. Stamp looked like she was letting five months of frustration out as she made quick work of 19-year-old judo brown belt Srisen – who was 3-0 but coming off a three-year hiatus in the sport – getting a first-round TKO. “I’m very happy I get to fight again after five months absent,” Stamp said after the fight. “I miss the Stamp Dance very much, though,” she added. The 22-year-old Stamp tore Srisen up in the clinch with knees to the midsection early on. She repeated the trick later in the round and took Srisen down in side control, then mounted her and took the back as she looked to finish things quickly. Stamp fired off punches as Srisen held an arm around her opponent’s neck hoping for a possible stand-up, but Stamp was teeing off on her head and referee Nick Chapman stepped in to end the one-sided contest. It’s feasible Stamp could be back in action much sooner than another five months, with ONE hanging around in Bangkok for another five events over the next seven weeks. “I can fight anything but it would be good to fight MMA again,” she said. “But I know I will have to defend my Muay Thai title soon. Once the country opens up again, I want to fight kickboxing again and try to get my belt back. “I hope that I will fight again and will be back for training if ONE give me an opportunity again.” The plan still seems to be to challenge ONE atomweight MMA champ Angela Lee when the time is right – but Stamp is not getting ahead of herself. “I feel that I need more experience to get in the top five ranking in MMA,” Stamp added. “The atomweight class has a lot of talents. I still need to improve on my ground game to face the top five ranking.” Whatever happens, Stamp will definitely need a step up in competition if she is to make it a contest against grappling specialist “Unstoppable” Lee – who has welcomed the idea of a super fight between them. “Sunisa can improve a lot and she is still very young. She trains really hard,” Stamp said. “With the right mind set and more experience she can improve a lot.”
