UFC 252: Stipe Miocic and the story of a superman who keeps his feet on the ground
- There’s a touch of Clark Kent about UFC heavyweight champ Miocic, who never quit day job as mild-mannered firefighter, even during Covid-19 pandemic
- ‘Being on the front line, I was scared to give it to my daughter and wife. I’d go straight to the laundry room, throw the clothes in the wash, hop in the shower’

It’s hard to think about Stipe Miocic and not think at the same time about Superman and his alter ego.
Consider, first, the fact that Miocic has never quit his day job as a mild-mannered firefighter, despite all the heroics he has shown in cage and the riches that have come with being one of the greatest heavyweights the UFC has ever seen.
Then consider Friday’s UFC 252 press conference and how the UFC’s reigning heavyweight champion appeared from behind a curtain in his wire-framed spectacles, blinking into the light, and how the conversation that followed covered topics such as doing the laundry and cleaning out toilets.
Yeah, it’s a little bit Clark Kent but Miocic has never been anything less than 100 per cent himself and why on Earth would he ever want to change?
“Just getting a ‘W’ and getting that belt is all I care about,” Miocic said, as he prepares to face Daniel Cormier come Saturday.
