Jon Jones has thrown his hat in the ring for a super fight with Stipe Miocic after the heavyweight champ retained his title against Daniel Cormier and settled their trilogy at UFC 252.

Miocic won a unanimous decision over 41-year-old former two-division champ Cormier, who confirmed his retirement after the fight at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

Light heavyweight champ Jones, who has been refusing to fight amid a pay dispute with the UFC – had been cheering on his former foe on social media during the broadcast, perhaps anticipating a lucrative trilogy bout of their own having been the only other man to beat “DC” (and twice).

“Let’s go DC!” he tweeted, having praised Cormier’s boxing defence after a third-round eye poke went unpunished by the referee. “Look at that eye, what a warrior.”

“Heavyweight world championship I will be seeing you real soon. Victorious,” he wrote in another series of tweets during the fight. “This is exciting. For some reason these heavyweights don’t seem real big to me tonight.”
