Leon Edwards’ absence from the UFC Octagon will stretch past a year and a half after his match-up against Khamzat Chimaev was scrapped for a second time this week. And now the UFC has pulled “Rocky” (18-3) from its January 20 Fight Island card altogether. With Michael Chiesa (17-4) and Neil Magny (24-8) now serving as the main event, it looks like the UFC will attempt to reschedule the bout with Chimaev (9-0). But Edwards could be spinning his wheels a while longer, with the undefeated Chechen-born Swede suffering from Covid-19 complications, according to his manager Ali Abdelaziz – and former UFC double champ Daniel Cormier has no idea what the matchmakers should do with the 29-year-old Briton. “Lot of guys are matched up, even on that same night you have Chiesa vs Magny, that takes away two opponents he could’ve fought,” Daniel Cormier told SCMP MMA . “I don’t know what you do with Leon Edwards now, I just … you would hope the guy as a human being can get a match-up.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Leon "Rocky" Edwards (@leon_edwardsmma) Edwards was set for a UFC London main event against former welterweight champ Tyron Woodley in March before the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic ripped up the global sporting schedule. “It’s weird when you think Leon Edwards, when he was gonna fight Tyron Woodley in England, they were there on the ground, ready to compete and then the pandemic hits, and it’s like. ‘OK, the fight’s cancelled, everybody’s going home’,” Cormier added. “So you kinda feel bad for the guy in that sense. So you would hope they find a match-up for him and if I know the UFC they’re doing everything in their power to try to make it happen for him.”
