UFC: Alex Volkanovski vows to ‘break’ Brian Ortega ‘the way Max Holloway did’
- ‘There are levels to this and I believe my pressure is just on a whole other level,’ says UFC featherweight champ
- ‘I don’t care how much he’s working on his fitness. I’ll still be able to get in his head, in his face, and grind him down’

Alex Volkanovski plans to make history repeat itself in his next title defence.
UFC featherweight king Volkanovski (22-1) is looking to put his belt on the line as early as March against No 1 contender Brian Ortega (15-1), though a date has not been officially announced, nor any contracts signed.
The match-up has many talking, after Ortega’s impressive outing against “The Korean Zombie” Jung Chan-sung in October. But the 32-year-old Australian champ has vowed to emulate former 145-pound king Max Holloway’s fourth-round TKO beat down of “T-City” in 2018.
“With his fight with Max, again, you’ve seen that it’s not easy to work on a gas tank,” Volkanovski told SCMP MMA. “Some people just have it and some people don’t.
“I believe I am going to break him, you know, the way that Max did. I believe that is somewhere I can go with it, especially with my pressure style.”
