UFC 259: Megan Anderson sees upset vs Amanda Nunes – ‘everyone’s invincible until they’re not’

  • Australian featherweight challenger says ‘everyone has holes in their game, you just have to find them’
  • Champ Nunes wary of ‘tall and long’ Anderson but warns ‘if I find my timing, I will finish it in the first exchange’

One of the greatest fighters of all-time is back in action at UFC 259.

Borderline unstoppable in the Octagon, bantamweight and featherweight champion Amanda Nunes enters this defence of her 145-pound title as a heavy favourite with Las Vegas bookies against Megan Anderson.

“I think everyone has holes in their game, you just have to find them,” the Australian challenger said, however at the UFC 259 pre-fight press conference. “Everyone‘s invincible until they’re not.”

The 31-year-old Anderson (11-4) was originally set to receive her first title opportunity in her promotional debut at UFC 214 in 2017, but personal issues got in the way of her and Cris “Cyborg” Justino colliding.

Cyborg would go on to be crowned the inaugural UFC featherweight champ that night, and hold the title until Brazil’s Nunes (20-4) came along in December 2018.

Needing just 51 seconds, Nunes knocked out her compatriot to capture a second divisional title and. become the consensus female “GOAT” (greatest of all time).

Amanda Nunes speaks with media.

“Every fight is completely different,” he 31-year-old Nunes said on Thursday. “I feel like she [Anderson] has the reach advantage. I feel like she’s very dangerous.

“I feel like this is a huge thing in her game plan, because she is tall and long, and that can be a little difficult to figure out. But in the first exchange if I find my timing, I will finish it.”

For “The Lioness,” she has defended her featherweight strap just once, which was her last fight – a unanimous decision win against Felicia Spencer at UFC 250 last June.

Megan Anderson answers a question at the UFC 259 press conference.

Like Spencer, Anderson is also a former Invicta FC champion in their division. In the case of Nunes, if she can defeat Anderson she will have notched wins over every featherweight champion in major MMA organisation history, with the exception of Pam Sorenson.

“I feel like I’m the true first featherweight that she’s fought that brings a lot of power,” Anderson said. “I know Felicia is a featherweight, but I think styles make fights. I have a lot of power that I bring to the table that I don’t think she’s seen in a very long time.”
