UFC 259: Dominick Cruz challenges Hans Molenkamp to charity fight in bizarre call out after beating Casey Kenney
- ‘The Dominator’ gets first win since 2016 with unanimous decision over rising bantamweight vstar
- But Cruz goes off on UFC sponsor Monster Energy’s Molenkamp, accusing him of ‘holding fighters hostage’
Dominick Cruz got it done in an entertaining scrap with Casey Kenney, taking a unanimous decision against the rising American bantamweight star, before giving a strange post-fight interview at UFC 259.
After securing his first win since 2016, the former 135-pound champ challenged Hans Molenkamp of UFC sponsor Monster Energy to a charity fight, with his broadcast analyst Joe Rogan left lost for words on interview duties at the Apex facility in Las Vegas.
Cruz claimed Molenkamp has been forcing fighters to do personal PR by making them take photos and videos with him, and said he is holding fighters hostage to their contracts with the energy drink supplier.
“It’s been a long amazing journey up to this point,” Cruz said. “I would love to get a charity fight lined up, in a day and age where a lot of fake people can take pictures next to Lamborghinis.
“A guy named Hans Molenkamp has been holding a lot of fighters hostage, saying he’s an awesome pro fighter and picking his fights.
“How about we do something for charity? He’s got a 100-pound advantage. I think we can put on a show with a lot of money.”
