UFC 259: Amanda Nunes makes light work of Megan Anderson, and warns ‘no one’s going to stop me’

  • Nunes gets quick submission of Australian challenger in first round of UFC 259 co-main event
  • ‘I’m going to retire undefeated with the two belts at home,’ says the Brazilian

Amanda Nunes made light work of Megan Anderson in their featherweight title tilt at UFC 259 in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

The Brazilian, on a 12-fight tear, has all but wiped out the 145-pound division with her latest impressive win against an outclassed Anderson.

Nunes dominated from the start and the Australian challenger looked stunned as the 32-year-old double champ swarmed her.

Anderson was shaken from the first exchange in the middle of the Octagon and never regained her composure. When Nunes took her to the ground, it was only a matter of time. Anderson tapped as Nunes locked in an arm bar after just 2:03 of the opening round.

“I’m here, it’s not my fault,” she told Joe Rogan, when asked how she makes it look so easy. “I know I have a lot of girls out there who want this opportunity, so sure we’re gonna have the next day.

“I’m getting older, I’m getting good. I feel like I’m finding my balance. I’ve been training hard and training with the best [at American Top Team] … I feel very good at this weight class and I feel amazing.”

After the fight, Nunes was embraced by her wife and fellow UFC fighter, Nina Ansaroff, who gave birth to the couple’s first child last September.

“You know one thing, Joe,” she added. “The lioness is always dangerous, but when she has a baby, no one can stop her. I’m more dangerous now with my little girl. No one’s going to stop me.

“I’m going to retire undefeated with the two belts at home.”
