Dominick Cruz caused a stir when he called out Monster Energy representative Hans Molenkamp and challenged him to a charity fight, following his unanimous decision win at UFC 259.

“The Dominator” beat Casey Kenney in Las Vegas on Saturday night, but spent as large part of his post-fight interview telling a bemused looking Joe Rogan he wanted to teach Molenkamp a lesson for “holding fighters hostage” and demanding personal PR from them.

“It’s all weird,” UFC president Dana White said when asked about Cruz’s comments at the post-event press conference. “Is Hans a goofy dude? Yeah, he’s very goofy. But they’re a sponsor, they’re great sponsors. They pay these guys a lot of money.

“Monster is one of these companies that really takes care of people, and it’s their company, they can sponsor whoever they want. They can run their business however they want.

“This isn’t like a work situation where you’re working for somebody and not happy with the way you’re treated. This is a sponsorship deal. Nobody is guaranteed money from a sponsor. It’s a privilege.

“So if you don’t like the way they do business, don’t do business with them. They’ve been good with us and to the sport and definitely to the fighters.
