ONE Championship targeting Thanh Le vs Garry Tonon featherweight title fight in summer
- ‘That’s the fight to make,’ ONE boss Chatri tells SCMP MMA – ‘but all things have to work out’
- ‘We had given them the fight offer for April, for our TNT shows, but Thanh just asked for more time’

ONE Championship boss Chatri Sityodtong has told SCMP MMA he is looking to book featherweight champ Thanh Le against Garry Tonon in the summer.
Vietnamese-American Le (12-2) knocked out Martin Nguyen to claim the belt last October, and had been offered the fight against grappling superstar Tonon (6-0) in April but was injured.
The 29-year-old “Lion Killer” Tonon climbed to third in the divisional rankings with a win over former challenger Koyomi Matsushima, and he and Le both told SCMP MMA in December they wanted the fight.
“[Tonon’s] next fight is gonna be the title fight against Thanh Le, so that’s gonna be very exciting,” Chatri said on Friday.
“They both agreed to it originally, but Thanh Le had broken his hand and he was still recovering from his previous fight.
