The UFC’s scheduled trilogy bout between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier is up in the air after the pair’s feud escalated over charitable donations after their rematch in January.

Former two-weight champion McGregor (22-5) – who lost to Poirier (27-6) via second-round TKO at UFC 257 in January – had said post-fight that he would donate US$500,000 (HK$3.9 million) to the former interim lightweight champion’s The Good Fight Foundation, which helps underprivileged communities in Poirier’s hometown of Louisiana.

Poirier and McGregor, both 32, have been officially booked to fight at UFC 264 on July 10 but their previously respectful relationship has taken a turn, with McGregor saying the fight is now “off” after being accused of not making the donation.

Replying to a fan prediction on Twitter, “The Diamond” Poirier said: “[Conor McGregor] you also predicted a donation to my foundation and you and your team stopped responding after the fight in January. See you soon. July 10th Paid In Full!”

“The Notorious” McGregor, who last won against Donald Cerrone via first-round TKO in January of 2020, attempted to explain the delay but took a shot at his opponent for openly picking the Poirier vs McGregor III fight over a lightweight title shot, which is to be determined by Charles Oliveira and Michael Chandler at UFC 262 in May.
