The Pettis siblings are re-establishing their name outside the UFC. The 34-year-old Anthony Pettis and his younger brother Sergio left the Las Vegas-based organisation on their own terms for greener pastures and have found lucrative new homes in the PFL and Bellator, respectively. Although some may feel the pair may not have departed the UFC of their own volition, “Showtime” insisted they were calculated moves. “I sent my brother out of the UFC because of the deal Bellator gave him [in October 2019],” Pettis told SCMP MMA. “I think everybody thought I was going to follow Sergio to Bellator, follow that path. “But I like Sergio having his own name. Sergio is over at Bellator and he’s Sergio Pettis. He’s not Anthony Pettis’ little brother. And I love that for him. He feels like the man over there. Even when I corner him, I just go out the last day just to show him some support. I want him to feel like his own man. He earned that and that’s what he has at Bellator.” A little over a year after his younger brother left the UFC, Anthony did the same coming off a win over Alex Moreno at UFC Vegas 17 in December. He completed his contractual obligations to test free agency and hit the jackpot with the PFL. UFC 261: Kamaru Usman tells Jorge Masvidal ‘you’re the first guy I’m about to lap’ Now the former UFC lightweight champion is slated to make his promotional debut on Friday night in the headliner to kick off the 2021 season against Clay Collard. He is eager to make a name for himself once again. “This is like Anthony Pettis PFL,” the Roufusport representative said. “Pettis Fight League coming out right now. I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself to be fancy and to do a ‘Showtime Kick’. But at the same time, that’s what’s going to happen. The way I’m flowing and the way I’m moving. [Collard] has nothing for me. There’s nothing he can do that I haven’t seen before. “I’ve been in there with the best of the best. Bloody-faced up and still coming forward. It’s not like he’s going to out-tough me, he’s not going to outwork me, he doesn’t have better technique than me. So I’m gonna go out there and really just let loose and be free.” In two weeks’ time, Sergio will challenge Juan Archuleta for the bantamweight title in the main event at Bellator 258. It will be his first chance at a world title and the family is riding high on momentum. “The Pettis household is having a good year,” Showtime said. “We’re going to have a great year. Two world champions in one year.”
