UFC 261: Zhang Weili calls for Rose Namajunas rematch, Dana White says ‘it makes a lot of sense’
- Former strawweight champ posts statement on Instagram after contesting stoppage in Jacksonville main event
- ‘The rematch is a fun fight and a lot of people will be excited about that fight,’ UFC president White says

Zhang Weili has called for a rematch with new strawweight champion Rose Namajunas after the American took her belt with a stunning first-round TKO at UFC 261.
The 28-year-old “Thug” dropped “Magnum” with a perfectly-placed head kick and then delivered some ground and pound to reclaim the 115-pound title after just 78 seconds on Saturday night in Jacksonville, Florida.
The Chinese fighter protested the stoppage, getting to her feet quickly before stumbling inside the Octagon in front of 15,000 fans at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena.
“Hopefully the UFC will schedule a rematch soon,” Zhang wrote in an Instagram post.
UFC president Dana White seemed keen on the idea at the post-event press conference.
“The rematch is a fun fight and a lot of people will be excited about that fight,” White said. “I don’t make fights the night of the fight but just … thinking off the top of my head, that makes a lot of sense.
