Sage Northcutt has insisted he will make Shinya Aoki eat his words after the Japanese legend told him to “eat s***”.

Aoki fired the mischievous broadside on Twitter after former UFC star Northcutt congratulated him on his win over Eduard Folayang at ONE Championship’s ONE on TNT 4 card last week.

The 25-year-old American had also put his hand up to be next for “The Baka Survivor” having originally been set to fight him on the card in Singapore, only for long-term coronavirus symptoms to rule him out. But Aoki was seemingly unimpressed by the call-out after their fight fell through.

“After he fought, he gets up there and calls me out, so I just replied,” Northcutt told SCMP MMA. “I actually gave him a compliment and said good job on the finish, good job on the submission tonight.

“He obviously accepted it [rebooking the bout] because we were already set to fight. So yeah, I was super nice about it. But, that’s the plan.

“I was very respectful. If anything it makes me question his integrity and his character. ONE Championship and martial arts is about integrity, honour, character. But for someone to say that back, I was just being nice. I meant it. I’m gonna be going out there to make him [eat his words].”
