ONE Championship: Sage Northcutt details struggles with Covid-19 complications – ‘blood clots are no joke’
- The 25-year-old American still undergoing blood tests and awaiting medical clearance to resume full training
- ‘My kidneys weren’t doing too good from the Covid, and my immune system was pretty much compromised … it’s definitely a pretty big deal,’ Northcutt says

Sage Northcutt has opened up on his struggles with the long-term Covid-19 complications that ruled him out of his ONE Championship return against Shinya Aoki last week.
The 25-year-old American (11-2) was set to face Japanese legend Aoki at ONE on TNT 4 in Singapore but is still seeking medical clearance to return to full training.
“I was training hard, I was looking forward to the fight with Shinya,” Northcutt told SCMP MMA. “I came down with Covid back in January and from there I developed blood clots after being sick.
“I was getting blood work done, checking how I’m healing up, my progression. I had some pain in my kidneys, so got that checked out and my kidneys weren’t doing too good from the Covid.
“And my immune system was pretty much compromised. So I’ve just been healing up from that and getting checked out to make sure I’m healthy.”
