ONE Championship will return to using pre-taped events to help fill out its schedule after a huge rise in Covid-19 cases in Singapore.
The Asian martial arts promotion had only returned to broadcasting preliminary fights live last month, along with its usual five- or six-fight main cards, with two longer live events held in its home city in September.
But a sharp spike in positive tests – Singapore recorded 2,909 cases on October 1 – has forced ONE to rejig its schedule again.
ONE will only be permitted to host one event at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in October, with the broadcast of next weekend’s all kickboxing First Strike event now restricted to just the main card bouts.


The preliminary fights will be pre-recorded and broadcast at a later date, and October 29’s NextGen event – which will feature the semi-finals of the atomweight grand prix – is now being rescheduled for November.
A second November broadcast will feature the pre-taped preliminary fights from the NextGen show, in a return to the format ONE has used for most of the last 12 months since returning to action.

ONE still plans to host a live broadcast for its 10th anniversary show, ONE: X, which is set to feature the grand prix final, as well as bantamweight champion Bibiano Fernandes against John Lineker, and featherweight champion Thanh Le against Garry Tonon.
Demetrious Johnson is also scheduled for a special rules bout against Muay Thai star Rodtang Jitmuangnon on that December 5 card.
Plans could still change, though, with ONE adhering to strict restrictions imposed by the Singapore government during the pandemic.
All fighters competing in ONE events in Singapore now have to be fully vaccinated, with athletes tested for Covid-19 multiple times before and after landing in the city, where they stay in a “bubble” limiting them to the fighters’ hotel and the arena.
