Stamp Fairtex is confident she will have the edge – and the more dangerous striking – in her ONE Championship atomweight grand prix semi-final against Julie Mezabarba on October 29.

Mezabarba (9-2-1) was called up as a replacement for the injured Ham Seo-hee having secured an alternate spot via an impressive unanimous decision over former title challenger Mei Yamaguchi on her promotional debut last month.

The Brazilian newcomer has said she is “not impressed at all” with any of the remaining competition in the tournament, something which has brought her a warning from her Thai opponent.

“I think that Julie is a bit arrogant coming out with a statement like this,” Stamp told the Post. “There is a saying in Thai, where people who think they know too much but sometimes they can also make mistakes.”

It’s been an unusual fight camp for the former ONE atomweight Muay Thai and kickboxing champ, who also had to spend two weeks in quarantine in Bangkok last month after her quarter-final victory against Alyona Rassohyna.

She has had less than eight weeks to turn around, but feels the late change of opponent could play into her hands following South Korean veteran Ham’s withdrawal.
