Former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar has opened up on his knockout loss to Marlon “Chito” Vera.
Edgar, a native of New Jersey, met Ecuador’s Vera in a bantamweight battle on the main card of UFC 268 last Saturday in New York City. Edgar had plenty of success in the fight, particularly with his wrestling in the first round, but was ultimately put down by blistering kick to the face in the third round.
Edgar, now 40 years old, was off the grid for the first few days after the loss, but finally opened up on the experience on the latest episode of his Champ and the Tramp podcast.
The former lightweight champ (24-10-1), one of the sport’s most respected veterans, seems to be taking the loss well, but admitted he feels the referee intervened prematurely.
“I lost the fight – that’s done,” the former champion said, slurring slightly due to the stitches in his tongue.
