Jared Brooks made a statement on his ONE Championship debut, defeating highly-regarded Filipino talent Lito Adiwang via second-round submission.

Brooks’ fight with Adiwang, a strawweight contest, topped Friday’s ONE: NextGen III card, which was pre-recorded in Singapore late last month.

The American former UFC star, 28, was the picture of dominance for the duration. After spending most the first round in top position, he completed a takedown in the second, and ultimately wrapped up a suffocating arm-triangle choke to coax out a tap.

“Mitch, pinch me, I feel like I’m dreaming,” Brooks (17-2) told commentator Mitch Chilson in his post-fight interview, before giving his vanquished foe some props.

“The utmost respect to Lito Adiwang. Before I even got into ONE, I was watching Lito, I followed him, and I had to unfollow him because I didn’t want him to think that I was a fan. It’s crazy for me. I have no words.”

Having bested Adiwang (13-4), who was ranked No 5 in ONE’s strawweight division heading into the fight, “The Monkey God” can look forward to more tough tests in the ONE Circle.
