UFC 269: Joe Rogan says Amanda Nunes ‘didn’t look prepared’ in shock loss to Julianna Pena

  • UFC commentator admits ‘I didn’t know what I was seeing’ following ‘crazy’ victory by Pena in bantamweight title fight
  • Rogan’s broadcast colleague Daniel Cormier says new champ made Brazilian ‘look like the Amanda Nunes from Strikeforce’

UFC commentator Joe Rogan has questioned Amanda Nunes’ preparations after her shock defeat by Julianna Pena in Las Vegas.

The former double champ – widely considered the greatest female fighter of all time – surrendered her bantamweight belt after being submitted with a rear-naked choke in a wild UFC 269 co-main event on Saturday night.

“She didn’t look prepared,” Rogan said on the pay-per-view broadcast following the conclusion of the event.

“[Pena] might have been 1000-1 today in a lot of peoples eyes,” he added. “It was a crazy fight, but Julianna Pena believed in herself.

“I didn’t know what I was seeing, it was like when you see something I gotta go back and watch it.”

Rogan added that Pena was evidently nervous, and his broadcast partner Daniel Cormier also paid tribute to the new champion.

“She centred herself amid all the chaos,” former UFC double champ Cormier said. “I don’t know how … she made Amanda look like the Amanda Nunes from Strikeforce. We haven’t seen her look that bad since she got to the UFC.

“She fought her [Nunes’] ego – you’re not so big and bad that I can’t stand in front of you. Amanda started throwing wild, looping punches.”

Rogan and Cormier’s broadcast colleague Jon Anik also brought up the US$350,000 wager one particular bettor placed on Nunes in Las Vegas during fight night.

“That guy’s crying right now,” Rogan said, laughing.
