UFC 269: Dustin Poirier offers Charles Oliveira US$20,000 donation to help his favela despite loss
- ‘You pick where it goes,’ Poirier tells UFC lightweight champ after getting submitted by the Brazilian in third round
- ‘I saw a video of [Oliveira] showing where he grew up, and saw how little they had,’ Poirier later explains

Dustin Poirier’s trademark charitable nature was on show once again despite a heartbreaking loss at UFC 269.
Moments after getting submitted by Charles Oliveira in the early hours of Sunday morning, “The Diamond” embraced the UFC lightweight champion in the Octagon and told him he would donate US$20,000 to help out the Brazilian’s impoverished hometown.
“You pick where the money goes,” Poirier told “Do Bronx”, who showed his gratitude and hugged his vanquished challenger.
Lafayette, Louisiana native Poirier has drawn plenty of plaudits for his charitable work with the non-profit organisation he started with his wife Jolie, the Good Fight Foundation, which has raised money from auctioning fight memorabilia to help their community.
“I saw a video this week of [Oliveira] showing where he grew up and where his mom cooked dinner for him, and saw how little they had,” Poirier explained at the post-event press conference at T-Mobile Arena.
“It came to me this week. I thought win, lose or draw I would talk to him after and let him know me and the Good Fight Foundation would donate US$20,000 to his city in Brazil and put the money to wherever they think it needs to be.
