ONE Championship’s Only The Brave card has seen a second main event fall through in the space of a week because of Covid-19. A source told the Post Marat Grigorian was out of next Friday’s featherweight kick-boxing grand prix semi-finals after returning a positive test in Thailand. The Armenian-born Belgian’s bout with Chingiz Allazov had been bumped up to top billing on January 28, after his Tiger Muay Thai teammate Anatoly Malykhin also contracted Covid-19. The undefeated Russian Malykhin was set to fight Kirill Grishenko for the interim heavyweight MMA title, but the card’s original main event has been postponed until ONE: Bad Blood on February 11. Grigorian will not get to postpone his semi-final, however, with Thailand’s Smokin’ Jo Nattawut replacing him against Allazov. Nattawut had been set for an alternative bout with Dovydas Rimkus on the main card. The other grand prix semi-final sees Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong face Davit Kyria. ONE: Malykhin tests positive for Covid-19, title fight postponed Asian martial arts promotion ONE has been putting plans in place for each card on the presumption that fights will fall off because of Covid-19. “What we’re doing now for every event, just because of what happened at [the Heavy Hitters event] – we originally had 12 fights scheduled, four got knocked out because of Covid-related reasons – we are actually going to be increasing the number of bouts per event by about 30-40 per cent, on every single show,” Chatri Sityodtong, ONE chairman and CEO, said last week. “So if there are dropouts, we can still end up at 12 [fights].”
