Deiveson Figueiredo is once again the UFC flyweight champion, but his rivalry with Brandon Moreno is seemingly far from over.

Brazil’s Figueiredo and Mexico’s Moreno, 34 and 28 respectively, collided in the co-main event of UFC 270 early on Sunday morning in Anaheim, California. After five thrilling rounds that saw the Brazilian score multiple knock-downs – and absorb plenty of big shots in return – he was awarded a close, unanimous decision victory.

“Today is my day, man,” an exhausted Figueiredo said, in English, in his post-fight interview with commentator Joe Rogan.

UFC 270 marked Figueiredo and Moreno’s third meeting in the Octagon. Their first encounter, in December 2020, ended with a draw, which meant that Figueiredo (21-2-1) retained the title. However, it also necessitated an immediate rematch. Moreno (19-6-20) won that fight, in June 2021, by second-round submission, claiming the title in the process.

Given that the pair are now 1-1-1 across three fights – hardly a decisive place to end a rivalry – a fourth fight seems inevitable.

The new champion, for his part, seems ready for that challenge, and even offered to run it back on Moreno’s home turf.

“I’m ready for a fourth fight with Brandon in Mexico. We’re going to be doing a fourth fight,” he said.
