Shinya Aoki and Yoshihiro Akiyama will finally settle their differences at ONE Championship’s 10th anniversary event.
ONE X is set for March 26 in Singapore, and the Asian martial arts promotion is pulling out all the stops for the occasion, stacking the two-card line-up with some of the biggest names on its roster.
A lightweight fight between former champion Aoki and “Sexyama” is one of the latest attractions to be announced.
The 38-year-old “Tobikan Judan” Aoki and former UFC star Akiyama, 46, have been in each other’s orbits for years, and have exchanged plenty of trash talk in that time, but have never met in a competitive context.


Aoki (47-9), known as one of the craftiest submission specialists in MMA, will enter his long-awaited grudge match with Akiyama on a four-fight win streak.
In his last four fights, he has defeated Honorio Banario, Kimihiro Eto, James Nakashima and Eduard Folayang.
Of those men, only Eto survived to the final bell without being submitted. That streak has earned Aoki the No 3 spot in the ONE lightweight MMA rankings.

Akiyama (15-7) arrived in ONE much more recently than Aoki, who has been with the promotion since 2013.
He has fought twice since joining the organisation in 2019, first losing a decision to Agilan Thani, then knocking out Sherif Mohamed in the first round. Both fights were contested in the welterweight division.

The ONE: X line-up has also been bolstered by a Muay Thai fight between Australian legend John Wayne Parr, and Filipino MMA export Eduard Folayang, who twice held the ONE lightweight title.
Parr, 45, will be looking for the 100th victory of his illustrious combat sports career. He has stated publicly that it will be his last fight.
The 37-year-old Folayang (22-12), meanwhile, will be looking to get back on track after consecutive losses to Pieter Buist, Tony Caruso, Aoki and Zhang Lipeng.

“At 45 I have come to the conclusion that I’m no longer a young man in this sport,” Parr wrote in an Instagram post this week.
“I’m currently on 99 wins and have decided I’ll try one more time to try and achieve greatness of reaching 100 wins before hanging them up forever.
“A massive thank you to Mr Yodchatri [Chatri Sityodtong, ONE chairman and CEO] for allowing me to fight on the biggest Muay Thai stage in the world to finish my career.”
ONE X will feature a blockbuster atomweight MMA title fight between champion Angela Lee and challenger Stamp Fairtex.
It will also feature a special rules attraction between former UFC champ Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson and Muay Thai star Rodtang Jitmuangnon.
