Anissa Meksen is back in action – and that could spell big trouble for ONE Championship’s Super Series. The kick-boxing superstar returns on April 22’s ONE: Eersel vs Sadikovic card at Singapore Indoor Stadium for an atomweight Muay Thai fight against Estonia’s Marie Ruumet. One of the world’s most decorated strikers, former Glory champion Meksen has been watching – frustratedly – from the sidelines since a stunning debut last September. The 33-year-old French-Algerian had put the Asian martial arts promotion’s women’s kick-boxing and Muay Thai divisions on notice with a slick second-round TKO of Cristina Morales. But she has seen her calls for a title shot against atomweight kick-boxing champ Janet Todd fall on deaf ears. “I don’t know what’s happening with her [Todd] but I’m ready to face her,” nine-time world champion Meksen told the Post at the Phuket Fight Club gym in Chalong. “I signed with ONE Championship for the belt, so next one I hope … I really, really want to face her for the title shot in kick-boxing.” ONE: Radzuan expects to challenge Lee in ‘two or three matches’ The 36-year-old American “JT” Todd is on a six-fight win streak in ONE, but has not fought since a third-round TKO of Anne Line Hogstad in a Muay Thai contest just over a year ago. “She said she’s not afraid of me, so let’s go. Let’s do it,” Meksen added. In the meantime, Meksen is just focused on getting another impressive finish when she competes in her first fight under Muay Thai rules for five years against “Snow Leopard” Ruumet next weekend. “It doesn’t matter, a fight is a fight for me,” she said. “Kick-boxing, Muay Thai, boxing – it’s a fight. I don’t care. I’m ready to fight everybody, every discipline.” “Eight months after the first fight is too much,” Meksen added. “I want to keep active more, so that’s why I want to fight more. “But I want the next one for a title shot, I’m waiting for that.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Anissa Meksen (@anissameksen) Ruumet, who trains out of the Marrok Force gym in Bangkok, was victorious on her ONE debut with a unanimous decision against Ayaka Miyauchi in August 2020, but has not fought in the promotion since. “I don’t know her, but she’s strong,” Meksen said. “She has a good elbow, but I’m more experienced than her, so we’ll see what happens on April 22. My goal is to finish the fight, of course. First round, it will be good.” Next Friday’s card also features two title fights, with the co-main event set to crown the inaugural strawweight Muay Thai champion. The bout will pit Todd’s training partner Jackie Buntan against 17-year-old phenom Smilla Sundell – but Meksen insisted she is not bothered about the outcome, despite admitting she wants to one day hold all four titles across the four ONE women’s Super Series divisions. “Really, I don’t care, I’m focused on my fight and I’m focused on Janet Todd, that simple,” Meksen said. “Jackie? Really, I don’t care about her, or this fight. I hope the best will win and that’s it, you know.”
