ONE atomweight kick-boxing champion Janet Todd is paying close attention to Anissa Meksen, but a fight with the French-Algerian is not the only thing on her mind. Fans have been calling for a fight between the two kick-boxing stars since Meksen knocked out Cristina Morales in her ONE Championship debut last year. Yet the fight has not yet come to fruition. Todd, for her part, seems to be open to a match-up with Meksen, who had already collected a host of major titles before arriving in ONE. “Anissa had a good kick-boxing match last year, and she’s proven herself as a top fighter in her previous organisation, so I think a kick-boxing title fight between us would be an exciting match-up,” the 36-year-old American told ONE Championship. If the 33-year-old Meksen intends to challenge Todd, she will first need to get through a Muay Thai fight with Estonia’s Marie Ruumet at ONE 156 this Friday in Singapore. Meksen is viewed as the clear favourite in the match-up, but Todd, who will be in the building to corner her training partner Jackie Buntan , suspects Ruumet will have some tricks up her sleeve. ONE: Meksen warns Todd ‘I’m waiting’ as kick-boxing icon returns “I watched Marie’s fight with ‘Little Tiger’ [Ayaka Miyauchi], and she’s really well-rounded,” she said. “She’s able to transition from hands to elbows really nicely. And she’s really made a huge improvement since her other fights that I’ve seen online. So if she’s able to make huge improvements from the Little Tiger fight, then I can only imagine what kind of improvements she can make for the Anissa fight. “What Anissa has to her advantage is her movement and her speed so, I hate making predictions, but I’ll be there, definitely watching them both closely.” If Meksen defeats Ruumet on Friday in Singapore, there will be a greater appetite than ever before to see her fight Todd. Yet after winning a pair of non-title Muay Thai title fights against Alma Juniku and Anne Line Hogstad, Todd is keen on challenging for gold in that sport, which could delay a possible kick-boxing fight with the French-Algerian. “I’m trying to work my way up to a Muay Thai World Title fight, so hoping to get back in the ring soon for another Muay Thai fight,” she said of her next move. Todd won ONE’s atomweight kick-boxing title with a split decision win over Thailand’s Stamp Fairtex in early 2020, but has yet to defend her belt, having been focused on Muay Thai competition instead. Despite her imminent Muay Thai fight with Ruumet, Meksen is focused on kick-boxing competition and the title currently held by Todd. “I don’t know what’s happening with her [Todd] but I’m ready to face her,” the nine-time world champion told the Post recently. “I signed with ONE Championship for the belt, so next one I hope … I really, really want to face her for the title shot in kick-boxing.”
