Anissa Meksen reaffirmed what most already knew at the ONE Championship 156 event on Friday evening in Singapore: that she is one of the best female kick-boxers in the world.

Maybe even the best outright.

The French-Algerian, a five-time Glory kick-boxing champ and former WBC Muay Thai title-holder, was back in action in an atomweight Muay Thai contest opposite Estonia’s Marie Ruumet.

She was the picture of dominance throughout, trapping her foe against the cage with a blend of slick footwork and sizzling boxing, and ultimately won a decisive unanimous decision with knockdowns in rounds one and three.

The disparity in skill between the two fighters was so evident that many viewers – play-by-play commentator Michael Schiavello included – were shocked to see Ruumet survive until the final bell.

But from the sounds of it, that may have been by design.

“I don’t want to finish this fight,” a classy Meksen said in her post-fight interview with commentator Mitch Chilson, noting that her opponent’s post-fight tears made her “so sad”.
