Nat “Wondergirl” Jaroonsak, one of the most popular young fighters in Muay Thai, is taking her talent to mixed martial arts. The 23-year-old Thai will compete in her first MMA bout against India’s Zeba Bano on the lead card of the upcoming ONE Championship 157 event, slated for May 20 in the Asian martial arts promotion’s home base of Singapore. The bout will be Wondergirl’s first since a brutal decision loss to Filipino-American star Jackie Buntan in February of 2020, which left her with facial fractures and double vision . In her MMA debut opposite Bano, she will look to return to the form that saw her score stoppage wins over Brooke Farrell and KC Carlos in her first two ONE Championship bouts. Bano will have the edge in terms of pro MMA experience in the match-up, but not by much. The 23-year-old “Fighting Queen” from Haryana is 1-0 as a professional, having defeated Monika Sharma by split decision in her debut in 2019. However, she also has four wins on the amateur MMA circuit, including two finishes. The ONE Championship 157 event will be headlined by a featherweight Muay Thai title fight between champion Petchmorakot Petchyindee of Thailand and challenger Jimmy Vienot of France. Petchmorakot won his title with a decision victory over Pongsiri PK. Saenchai in 2020, and defended it twice that year with a decision win over the legendary Yodsanklai IWE Fairtex and a TKO win over Magnus Andersson. The Thai champion has not competed under the ONE banner since, instead rattling off four victories as a professional boxer in his home country. Vienot, the reigning Superkombat middleweight champion, will be making his ONE debut. The card will be co-headlined by a strawweight Muay Thai title fight between champion Prajanchai PK. Saenchai and challenger Joseph Lasiri. Thailand’s Prajanchai won the title with a decision win over Sam-A Gaiyanghadao last summer, and will be looking for his first defence. His Italian foe Lasiri will be looking to build on the momentum of a knockout over Asahi Shinagawa late last year. ONE 157 will also feature the opening round of the promotion’s recently revealed flyweight Muay Thai Grand Prix, which will include reigning champion Rodtang Jitmuangnon, former champion Jonathan Haggerty, as well as stars like Taiki Naito and Walter Goncalves. Other highlights include the debuts of Tye and Kade Ruotolo, two of the brightest stars in jiu jitsu, who will meet Garry Tonon and Shinya Aoki in 12-minute submission grappling matches.
