Jonathan Haggerty has been removed at late notice from the flyweight Muay Thai Grand Prix at ONE Championship 157.
Former champion Haggerty felt unwell and was not medically cleared to compete for Friday night’s event in Singapore, the Post has learned.
The 25-year-old Briton will be replaced in his tournament quarter-final against Walter Goncalves by Josue Cruz, who had been set to compete in a Grand Prix alternate bout against Thailand’s Panpayak Jitmuangnon earlier in the card.
Haggerty later said on Friday morning he was “devastated” he had to withdraw from the tournament, but did not expand on his ailment.
“Camp had been a very challenging one due to health reasons from the very start,” he wrote on Instagram, alongside of picture of him in a hospital bed.
“However I truly believed I had overcame them and was back on track and ready to go into this incredible tournament and give it everything I could to win.
