ONE Championship reveals full Amazon Prime Video schedule for 2022 at LA press conference

  • Asian martial arts promotion will broadcast one event each month on Amazon’s streaming service starting in August
  • Vice-president Rich Franklin says ONE will put ‘boots on the ground’ with cards on American soil in 2023

ONE Championship has announced its full schedule of US prime time events for its new partnership with Amazon Prime Video.

The dates for the five monthly shows were confirmed by ONE vice-president Rich Franklin at a press conference hosted at The Novo in Los Angeles on Wednesday night.

ONE on Prime Video 1: Moraes vs Johnson II will be broadcast on August 26 in the US, from the Singapore Indoor Stadium where the event will be held on the morning of August 27 local time.

All of the shows will feature as the second part of double headers, with back-to-back events to be held in Singapore starting with next month’s ONE 160 card on August 26 local time.

Further ONE on Prime Video cards will be shown in US prime time on September 30, October 21, November 18, and December 2, with all of the events to be held in Asia.

Franklin promised though that ONE will put “boots on the ground” in the US in 2023, and put on Prime Video cards on American soil.

ONE on Prime Video 1 will be headlined by a rematch between flyweight MMA champ Adriano Moraes and the legendary Demetrious Johnson.

The co-main event features a bantamweight Muay Thai title fight between champion Nong-O Gaiyanghadao and Liam Harrison.

Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong was absent from the press conference – with Franklin telling the gathered media the ONE boss had tested positive for Covid-19 – but said in a statement he was “incredibly excited” to kick off the new relationship with Prime Video.

“The first time that Adriano Moraes and Demetrious Johnson met inside the Circle, no fans were allowed in the arena due to Covid-19,” Chatri said. “This time, the fight will be in a packed arena with millions watching around the world, and there could not be a better way to launch our US prime-time events.

“We know ONE brings an incredible and unique experience for fight fans; something completely different from what American audiences have seen before. We are excited to celebrate the wide range of martial arts disciplines and showcase the world’s best competitors on Prime Video.”

The press conference featured Moraes and Johnson, as well as ONE atomweight MMA champion Angela Lee, and her recent challenger Stamp Fairtex – whom she beat by second-round submission at ONE X in Singapore in March.

ONE featherweight kick-boxing champ Superbon also made trip from Thailand, while Johnson’s fellow former UFC champ Eddie Alvarez flew in from Philadelphia.

American BJJ stars Mikey Musumeci and Danielle Kelly were also on stage, with Musumeci confirming he will challenge for the first ever submission grappling title in ONE’s history on the September 30 Prime Video card.
